Cemetery Rules
The Fairview Cemetery Rules and Regulations:
1. The cemetery shall be open from 7:00 AM to sunset each and every day. The superintendent shall have the ability to close the cemetery during and immediately following snowstorms or other inclement weather in order to facilitate the clearing of roadways and to assure public safety.
2. A vault or grave liner shall be required for all burials excepting cremains. This rule shall be waived upon the religious objections of the deceased or family, provided that a fee, set by the trustees, be paid to cover the expenses caused by periodic grave settling.
3. The minimum size lot for a mausoleum shall consist of a four-grave lot for an over and under mausoleum, and eight grave lot for a double size mausoleum.
4. New York State law has approved that cremated pets can be buried with their owner, a cremation charge would be levied and, if added after the owner has passed, a grave opening and cremation charge would apply.
5. Littering of grounds is prohibited. Barrels are located for refuse and should be used.
6. Live potted or cut flowers are allowed at all times. Cut flowers should be removed by their owners after two weeks or will be removed by the caretaker Live flowers may not be planted but must be in pots or urns. No decorations other than flags and flowers are permitted on any of the lots.
7. No artificial flowers are allowed in the cemetery except in urns or pots – limit two per lot. Exception being those mounted on top of stones.
8. Only two urns allowed per lot.
9. Glass containers or figurines on graves are prohibited as they break and cause dangerous conditions to everyone.
10. All vases, pots, etc. must be kept out of grass mowing lanes of your lot to allow even cutting of grass. They must be placed on, or immediately adjacent to, the grave marker or monument.
11. Marble chips or stones are not allowed around monuments, unless they have a suitable frame or enclosure. Please see the superintendent about installing a frame or enclosure. The lot holder will be asked to remove any stone or chips placed without a suitable enclosure No trimming around the monument will take place until the situation is resolved.
12. No above-ground permanent stones, pots, urns, etc. are allowed on Memorial Section lots. This allows for easy maintenance of this section.
13. In order to prepare the cemetery for winter, all pots, vases, etc. should be removed at the end of October by the owners or they will be disposed of by the caretaker. Any wishing to keep them should remove them before this time.
14. Artificial winter wreaths are allowed from November 1 to March 31 and must be removed by the last day of March allowing for spring clean-up. Wreaths should be removed by lot holders. If not, they will be removed by the caretaker.
15. Any ground planting of flowering or other plants, shrubs or trees is hereby prohibited without advanced approval by the cemetery board. Any planting without such approval will be removed and disposed of by cemetery personnel. No border edging or fencing material is allowed on any lot.
16. Public gathering of a partisan nature is prohibited.
17. Any form of sports or recreation including, but not limited to, jogging, bicycling, skating and picnicking is prohibited.
18. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited on cemetery property.
19. Dogs must be leashed and controlled at all times and droppings must be removed. Persons failing to adhere to this rule will be asked to remove their dog from the cemetery.
20. Inappropriate conduct is not allowed in the cemetery, such as, but not limited to loud music/noise, partying, offensive language, sexual activity, etc. Kindly be respectful of the deceased as well as their living visitors.
